KOMA CULTURAL CENTER

In this proposal, the experience of KOMA begins with the garden, the focus and heart of the project. Centralized, always present to the visitor's view, the garden acts as the organizer of the whole project.

The different parts of the program are treated as clear and distinct volumes and articulated around the garden and connected by continuous circuits of circulation slabs. The soul of KOMA is the performance hall; this large parabolic volume rising from a rectilinear base is counterbalancing the void of the garden. This dichotomy between solid and void becomes the driving force of the project.

The corner of the project is distinctly marked by a monumental curved wall, which is the cornerstone of the project, where the founders' names will be placed.

Finally, the major sculpture gallery is a bridge-like structure acting as a light-beacon above the garden, celebrating the new Korean American generation in America.
